Putting in a traffic light would just screw the whole works up

For those of you who complain about OUR traffic

Mr. Motorcycle said...: This seems like chaos, and an extreme danger, however, if you really watch closely and watch for a while you can see that they clearly are very used to this and it is more like a very well orchestrated combination of the use of an four way, or all way stop intersection, and a round about yield system put together. Because we don't have this here, we aren't used to it, and we would all crash because no one would yield. There, it works just fine. I guess it's what you are used to.; September 25, 2009 at 4:15 PM
Lance said...: It's pretty amazing. I think people just watch out for each other there when they are crossing into traffic, rather than assuming right of way. Also, horns there seem to be used to alert people, rather than as a way to yell at them if they are in the way.; September 25, 2009 at 5:12 PM
Canajun said...: There is kind of a system to it, but having experienced crossing a similar intersection in China, on foot, I can tell you that it is plenty nerve-wracking.

I wasn't there long enough to get used to it, but I do have to admit I see more accidents and close calls here at a normal busy city intersection than I ever saw over there. So it seems to work for them.; September 25, 2009 at 6:48 PM

In Switzerland (first in the French part, now everywhere) they stopped putting traffic lights on road crossings out of town and rather put round abouts. I have seen crazy traffic like this in so many places in South East Asia, Needless to say, we have never rented a car to drive there. Well, once we rented a motorcycle on the Island of Kho Samui and got in an accident, so we won't be doing it again.
