mq01 said...: good morning baron :) i agree, they are gorgeous. i have to admit, ive been thinking about your review of your recent road king ride and i can relate. my softail has almost the same exact config, just slight differences. and i have to downshift quite a bit as well. it has an abundance of power but you have to shift through... maybe due to 6sp vs 5sp? anyway, the sound you mentioned, i prefer mine loud and actually feel it is not loud enough stock, but thats just me.

I'm not sure how it would do in town but would love to cruise on some long road with it. if you are sure its for long distance riding, might i suggest you demo the street glide & ultra. my understanding is they have very different riding characteristics even though they are similar in engine and trans. flhx dave at road grits cafe said recently the differences between my deluxe and his street glide are only in gearing (if i remember correctly). to address rpm range maybe seek a used 5sp? i have noticed used are half the cost of mine new, currently there are many deals to be had...

i do long distance riding as well and i believe i could have made a better purchase to fit my overall needs. but i found the bike i LOVE so i will make it work.

Baron's Life said...: Lance, the ride is comfortable...dead weight may be an issue, but not when you're rolling down the road...it will behave like your 250...well maybe not exactly so, but certainly like an 1100cc Honda..so it's very good from the handling point of view...the only thing I question is the need to downshift a lot to climb hills but that's the nature of the beast...visually it is the dream machine in my mind. You're right. The Dyna is a better handling machine, and power to weight is better. But when it comes to straight looks, the Road King wins hands down imo. And don't minimize the value of saddlebags that will hold a 24 of cans (each) either!
