good morning baron :) i agree, they are gorgeous. i have to admit, ive been thinking about your review of your recent road king ride and i can relate. my softail has almost the same exact config, just slight differences. and i have to downshift quite a bit as well. it has an abundance of power but you have to shift through... maybe due to 6sp vs 5sp? anyway, the sound you mentioned, i prefer mine loud and actually feel it is not loud enough stock, but thats just me. great info, thanks, i appreciated it.
mq01...Hi and I hope you have a great Sunday today...They are gorgeous and I think, in the end, one of these are going to emerge the winner...Apart from the frequent downshifting required to climb hills the bike is a beauty and very comfortable...6sp vs 5 sp might have something to do with it...but then again if I wanted a high performance bike I'd have to look elsewhere... but the road king certainly has torque/power and is designed for long distance riding...
Baron, you've selected what is perhaps my favorite bike - thanks! The Road King looks so good, a very muscular bike. I'm not sure how it would do in town but would love to cruise on some long road with it. It's probably too heavy for me, and kind of pricey too, but I haven't found a metric in the same classification that looks as good as this.
it is a fabulous day here, thanks. i hope yours is as well.
if you are sure its for long distance riding, might i suggest you demo the street glide & ultra. my understanding is they have very different riding characteristics even though they are similar in engine and trans. flhx dave at road grits cafe said recently the differences between my deluxe and his street glide are only in gearing (if i remember correctly). to address rpm range maybe seek a used 5sp? i have noticed used are half the cost of mine new, currently there are many deals to be had...
i do long distance riding as well and i believe i could have made a better purchase to fit my overall needs. but i found the bike i LOVE so i will make it work.
Lance, the ride is comfortable...dead weight may be an issue, but not when you're rolling down the road...it will behave like your 250...well maybe not exactly so, but certainly like an 1100cc Honda..so it's very good from the handling point of view...the only thing I question is the need to downshift a lot to climb hills but that's the nature of the beast...visually it is the dream machine in my mind. It's not a racing bike but an excellent cruiser...I'm slowly falling in love with it
Well I didn't even know this was a make/model of a Motorcycle. Hmmm first time I've seen one of these, or perhaps frist time I knew the name of it. I like the last one the best. What I don't like about this brand is the back tire is too hidden. It just makes it look odd to me. Happy Sunday :)
mq01 ... it's a bit overcast here but as long as no rain, we'll be in good shape. I understand the advantages of the street glide and will be trying next weekend if it don't rain...I'm just wondering at this stage if HD will build a special Road King for me based on what I really want...You'd be surprised top hear how popular HD is in Europe and in Japan...they are very successful over there with many owners and fans
You know that I am not in for bikes. But looking at this pictures, I understand why people get "hot" for them. They are good reasons, they are beautiful. Ans I am sure, owning one of them makes you feel great.
baron, hd will certainly take special orders with deposits/$$$. having said this, i would not recommend it during this economy. unfortunately i know of several people that experienced difficulty because of hd's inability to deliver special orders since closing a factory.
Although my personal ride is a Dyna Low Rider, I must admit to lusting after my brother's '08 Road King. To my mind it looks JUST the way a Harley should look - especially when the windshield is off. It's a beautiful piece of machinery for sure.
Baron, You're right. The Dyna is a better handling machine, and power to weight is better. But when it comes to straight looks, the Road King wins hands down imo. And don't minimize the value of saddlebags that will hold a 24 of cans (each) either! Not that I get to see it much mind you. He's usually back there somewhere trying to catch up ;)
